5 ways to achieve peace of mind
This column is contributed by Devina Kaur
If your soul were a musical instrument, the inner quiet condition would be visible when the strings of the soul sound naturally and harmoniously. That feeling of harmony is what we could refer to as a state where our mind is at peace. Being able to experience peace and confidence can only be found when you take the time to look within yourself.
“My own story is a lesson in overcoming the odds to find happiness, peace, and pleasure. From an eating disorder to low self-esteem to manic depressive mood swings, I have gone through a lot to become the “Divine Devina.”
The difficult encounters in my life were ruthless on me. They were extremely tough to deal with. However, over the course of time, I learnt to keep moving forward which helped me in my journey to feeling #SexyBrilliant.
Here are a few suggestions that might help you achieve peace of mind:
- Learn to accept your true self
Put your complete self-assurance by following your intuition and placing forth a valiant effort to know and accept yourself. Take some time out for yourself so that you can connect with your innermost thoughts and desires. Go deep within your own inner being and find a place where your fantasies come to life. You can help achieve true peace of mind by having the knowledge about yourself, accepting yourself, and healing yourself through love. - Move the body
Exercise, martial arts, and specifically yoga, can help you to achieve a calm and peaceful state of mind. When you spend too much time overthinking, you might fall into thought patterns that do not serve your highest self, and therefore others. Spending time in a yoga pose or on a nature walk helps you slow down and focus on your breathing. I personally love to walk barefoot to connect with nature. Remember that when you take a deep breath, you are not alone. Be in the flow of life knowing that there is no need to fret about things you cannot control. - Adopt an attitude of gratitude
The more gratitude we give the happier we feel. Adopting an attitude of gratitude for all things helps you let go of difficult events and situations, while attracting more of what you need. Being grateful for all things creates a loving atmosphere. If you are not sure where to begin, try visualizing the face of the person you love most. Maybe it’s your own! You can write a love letter to yourself, or make a list of the people, things, and blessings you are most grateful for. These are loving intentions that connect you with the universe. - Allow yourself some time to heal
Take as much time as you require. Emotional healing is a process that should not be rushed. Don't allow yourself or others to rush your healing. Moving on does not happen overnight; it requires a series of small steps to be able to break free from your damaged past and wounded self. Take one step at a time, one breath at a time. Never let past adversity make you feel like you're living a poor life now. Yesterday may have been difficult but it doesn't guarantee that today will be as well. Our wounds are portals into our greatest and most beautiful selves. - Don't be concerned about what others may think of you
This world will try to keep you from the truth of your authentic being. It might discourage you from self-acceptance and from welcoming yourself favourably. The reality is that you should be loved and accepted just as you are. Who you are is not purely good or bad; you are perfect and real, just as you are. Remember that no part of you is your own enemy. Embrace the good and the bad parts of what makes you who you really are. Each person has a special uniqueness; you have that gift too! You are a unique, sexy brilliant being, and your being is a divine creation. You are a gift made by the Divine who has put you in this physical form to experience a beautiful life on planet Earth. Love starts with self-acceptance—of your own body and mind just as they are, in this very state of perfection.
